Whose idea was it to build the basketball court as cover for the jet? Shouldn't they have chosen something a little less obvious?

Well, considering the size of the Blackbird to start with... though of course, you do realize that the basketball court is non-regulation sized?

It had to be made bigger, to accomodate the secondary purposes of the hangar doors.

Actually, I've not noticed that. I don't play basketball. (Team sports. Bah, I say. Bah.)
