Yes, and I have no desire to drink the blood of livestock, yet I remain Chipotle. Or whatever other horrific mispronounciation will cause enduring pain to our mutual flatmate.
Out of curiosity, what is the rationale behind code names, anyway? I'm not sold on the "protecting our identities" thing, since really, no matter what you call Juggernaut, he's kind of distinctive.
On the other hand, it's less likely that we're going to be coordinating a rescue effort for 'Cable' than we are for 'Nathan' and it would suck to get the target mixed up with the teammate, right? Right.
There are several different explanations for the use of code names on the team.
1) Yes, Juggernaut is distinctive. However, some of our other teammates are less so. Using a code name may very well give them an edge in a situation where surprise is of the essence.
2) They contribute to a 'team' mindset and allow us to separate our 'normal' selves from our working selves. Some might argue this is not the healthiest course of action, but fighting forces have been using code names and other ways of designating members for as long as said forces have existed.
3) They're fun. You do not really think Cyclops was issued without a bit of tongue in cheekiness?
There is an interesting point there - so you're saying that while Ororo Munroe, school headmaster and horticulturist might balk at sending a lightning bolt down Magneto's spine, that Storm, leader of the X-Men, would find it easier?
I'm not sure I am altogether at ease with that particular dichotomy. At least when it comes to myself. I'm a firm believer in responsibility for my own actions - I'd prefer to think that who I am in uniform is the same as who I am behind the desk at school or work, or in my lab, or kick back playing foosball with my friends or lounging in the Tiki Tub.
I mean, I can see the tactical and strategic value of it. I just don't want to go down the road of thinking of myself in terms of another identity. That's too frighteningly similar to Magneto's mode of thinking.
Ororo Munroe and Storm have different priorities - the first would be concerned with the school and the students, while the second would have another set of concerns to follow. I do not think it is so much of an alter ego as a way to refocus oneself on the tasks at hand. What we are called to do as X-Men takes a different set of skills than what we do the rest of the time.
I do not think having a code name divulges one of responsibility - if anything, it heightens it. With the name comes standards, rules, and regulations, and it is important to remember that. While you are more than welcome to use whatever name you would like in either sphere, it is a helpful strategy for others. Or at least for me.
And as much as I hesitate to draw conclusions about the mind of a man I cannot begin to fathom, I wonder how Magneto thinks of himself, and if it would really change his actions all that much if he were to call himself merely Erik instead.

So it's totally her own fault.
