And now the real state of things.

Scott did in fact have a powers accident this morning. Both Jean and myself found him in his office after the wall exploded. After a visit to the infirmary it was decided he would be moved off-site for further observation. The reason for this is that we have cause to believe that during our mission taking the Preservers into custody, he was affected by the same mutant who has caused the explosions of the mutant 'bombers'.

What exactly this means is as of yet unsure: Scott is under observation now at a government facility while Jean, Moira, and Hank (among others) try to figure out the best course of action. Nothing has been concluded yet, and I will keep you updated on the state of things.

Also, because of the state of Scott's office, I will need to contact a contractor to begin repairs. I will do that... later.

Please do not spread this information around the school; there is no need to cause the students to panic. Please direct them to me or Charles if they have any questions. Thank you.

First off, the important thing is that Scott's being taken care of. Hank and Moira have all the information I can provide on possible methods of containment for an unstable mutation. If I can be of any further assistance, they know where I can be reached.

Second, though, given prior concerns by a number of the students about misinformation - is it wise to mislead them as to the seriousness of Scott's condition? Many of them will take it as an insult - and rightly so - to imply that they aren't mature enough to handle the truth.

Either way, I'm not going to be the one to break confidence on this. Anyone who has questions, I'll direct to you.

Right now, we simply do not have enough information to give an accurate and complete view of what has happened. I understand better than most the desire the students have to be informed, and while I respect that, I also do not feel comfortable revealing what are right now only hypotheses and guesses.

It has only been a few hours. When such a time comes that Jean or one of the other doctors can tell me with certainty what the prognosis for Scott is, then I will do what I can to inform the students. And I did not give them any misinformation - everything I said was, to the best of my knowledge, true, and anything further than that would be speculation right now. I refuse to let gossip and rumors take over on this. And I would prefer to let the doctors work uninterrupted than try to get an accurate statement on his condition right now.

Fair enough. I apologize for playing devil's advocate here, but I have to ask - how should this affect any upcoming security matters? I understand that Scott was likely exposed to this effect while on the mission in Portugal. Do we know if this effect is contagious, or if anyone else on the mission was exposed? Shiro, for example, is quite a bit more dangerous than Scott if he goes nuclear.

As far as I know, the exposure would have taken place in Portugal, as you said. The effect is likely not contagious from person to person, only from source to person, but that means there are still those of us who were possibly affected on the mission. Those team members who were not there are at little to no risk.

If anyone who was in Portugal (Logan, Shiro, Marie) feels in the slightest way 'off', you must come see me immediately. Scott said he was feeling ill this weekend, so if you were affected, you would most likely be feeling it by this point. If you are not, it may still be wise to have Amelia check you out.

I realize I may be thinking rather ahead of the curve here, and that technically I'm still "in training," but should you at any point need to put a team together to go hit someone until they dispense a cure, I'd like to put my name in the hat.

Really, even if Summers doesn't end up needing a cure of last resort, I'd like to be one of the ones calculating the dosage if there's any chance the Preservers are going to find themselves medicated from the "blam" jar.
