Some background: Charles asked Jennie to speak to Mariah Whitaker, a newly manifested mutant at NYU. The two happen to share a class. There was a powers accident, as you've all probably gathered at this point. I suppose it's probably a good thing that it's a relatively... harmless power. More or less.

Charles is using Cerebro to search for the girl and a couple more of her 'victims'. I guess we're in a holding pattern until then. I mean, Jennie's fine according to Jean and Moira, she's just a dog.
