I'm sure you all noticed the helicopter on the lawn. Some of you might have seen Val Cooper emerging from it. She came with some exceptionally bad news.

Succinctly, Magneto is currently orbiting the Earth in a Russian space station, in control of a satellite-based laser weapons system. If the US and Russian governments don't fulfill the first of his demands - releasing all mutants they currently have in custody - in a week, he's going to destroy Washington and Moscow.

Forge, I need you in the Situation Room right now. Everyone else, I need you down here in 30 minutes, once Ororo and I have a basic plan to present.

Then again, from all accounts if one manages to get close enough to score a physical hit perhaps one is entitled to take it.

I'm no good against Buckethead anyway. More a danger to everyone else than I am to him. Took my shot against him. Didn't go well.

So I'm staying home anyway. And you're a little thin to start tossing away people just because you don't like their style, Slim.

It's got nothing to do with style. It's got to do with precision, which, shockingly, we're going to need in spades in a zero-gravity atmosphere in fucking orbit. I would rather take fewer people than we need than anyone who's going to blow out a bulkhead trying to get at Magneto and kill us all.
