... why we're not going anywhere yet, when it looks very much like they're dealing with a mutant manifestation over in Hawaii, it's because the President has specifically asked us to stay clear until the evacuation is done. He's avoiding any kind of military intervention until then, as well. This is not Smichov redux, folks - I happen to agree with him. It makes sense to avoid provoking another eruption until the civilians are clear.

So we'll hold off and keep an eye on the news. We'll need someone monitoring the newsfeeds 24/7, and as my wife has just reminded me, I can't take all the shifts myself. So, volunteers are welcome.

No. Neither has Shiro, although he's going to see what he can find out when he's over there with RedX. It's entirely possible that Alex has just already left to be evacuated and didn't have the chance to get in touch with us beforehand.

Do we actually know if it is a mutant, and if so, any hope in identifying who it is? Hawaii isn't exactly a large state, and I know Fred will give me access to the databases if we've got some data to work with.

Well, she's either a mutant or the goddess Pele. She claims the latter and that would explain the Kilauea connection.

Charles is trying to see what he can find out with Cerebro. I would imagine the chaos in the area's making his job more difficult, though.

I was thinking local law enforcement for a start. Manifestations are often marked by strange events or minor issues that fall under the juristiction of the local police. If this is some girl who's been slowly building up to the 'sink Hawaii into the sea' level of powers, there might be some kind of record that hints to her actual identity. So assuming Fred gives the okay, I can use the FBI system to run searches in case of a match. Do the same thing with the tourist lists via the airport, in case a name turns up matches back home.

If Pele turns out to be Emma-Lou of Sagebrush, NE, that information could make it easier to approach her.

We've been asked to stay out of it. Approaching her isn't staying out of it and it could endanger the people on those islands. Even if all she's controlling is Kilauea, the whole chain is connected and she could cause widespread damage.

I'm sure that the FBI is already doing their job and trying to figure out who this woman is. Let's just let them.

I suppose I'm not used to the entire structure here, but preparing for needing to be involved has never seemed to be a bad idea, especially in terms of gathering information. And you think that you can do the FBI's job better than they can, is that what you're saying? Christ knows that they couldn't possibly do the investigative work on their own and then give it to us if they need our assistance. I mean, before you showed up they never even dreamed that we might be able to help, let alone already have an established working relationship.

You can't do anything right now. None of us can. Unless you want to get on a plane and go help the relief efforts, it's just not happening. Wait it out. Go organize a poker game or something. THat seems to have worked for others.

Garrison, as far as I know, Charles has been in touch periodically with someone - more likely Val Cooper than Fred Duncan - since we were asked to stay clear. The only redeeming quality of a situation like this is that the lines of communication stay wide open just in case they do want us in Hawaii promptly. It's just that there's not much to know at this point.

Just pointing out that we can be proactive without mucking about the field itself. Look, I come from a background that usually involves talking a guy with a shotgun to the head of a six year old girl down. A mutant with the power to crush a volcanic range is roughly in the same mental state. The more we can find out before hand, the better we're at if they ask for help.

You equate asking the FBI, who, you know, I work for right now, for additional information as somehow not allowing the US government to do their job? Obviously you're a little distraught right now, so I'll bow out. Scott, just let me know what you need.
