Mission report: Adirondacks
Jan. 17th, 2005 10:32 pmTeam members: Cyclops (lead), Cannonball (second), Beast, Polaris, Husk (trainee)
Objective: Retrieve Carter Ryking and return him to the Saranac Lake Long-Term Care Facility. [See appended background report #3A53]
Mission status: Successful. Ryking was subdued and returned to the care of his doctors. Beast, upon consultation with the physicians there, offered a solution to the drug reaction that caused Ryking's psychotic episode. The physicians were warned to ensure proper consultation took place before any more experiments with Ryking's medication. No further action required at this time.
Summary: With the Professor directing us via Cerebro, we located Ryking in the Adirondacks. Landing the Blackbird, we approached him on foot. I attempted to reason with him, based on our previous acquaintance. He was clearly still irrational and immediately launched an electrical attack, which Polaris managed to largely redirect.
Cannonball briefly took tactical control and ordered Husk and Polaris in. Polaris continued to redirect Ryking's electrical blasts. [A report from her as to the method she used will be filed in the database by tomorrow. Given the number of times we've faced electrokinetics in the recent past, I think it's worthwhile to have her refine it further.] Husk and Cannonball subdued Ryking without inflicting or suffering any injuries, and Beast sedated him for transport.
We returned him to Saranac Lake, as detailed above, and then headed home.

Additional points:
1) Should be considered a successful training mission for Husk. Full reports from both her and myself will be filed soon.
2) Looking into enhancing the Blackbird's medical facilities might also be a worthwhile side project.
3) We need to devise a new range of training scenarios for Polaris. She's clearly made substantial progress in control and versatility. Establishing her current limits and encouraging her to continue to push them should be a priority.
4) Ow. Someone needs to smack me upside the head the next time I try to reason with a psychotic electrokinetic. Sometimes there is really no place for the diplomatic approach.

Hey, Cyclops, if you want to expand the 'Bird's medical facilities I suggest you touch base with Beast and get a list of functional specifications. Then we can talk about how to integrate them into the existing facilities. We've got the computing horsepower, we're just short on _space_. Only so much we can do with the cubic we have available.
Maybe a meeting with the three of us to discuss parameters and requirements? Once we have that, we can talk to Professor X about funding and acquisitions.
Good job, people.

A few after-action thoughts
Date: 2005-01-19 03:29 am (UTC)I don't think there's anything wrong with trying the diplomatic approach first, sir. In a situation like this, trying to talk the subject down, at least initially, is probably a better idea than just walking in powers blazing. After all, the object of the mission was to subdue Ryking without any injuries if possible. And, no real harm done, as the end result was a success.
