All right. Mission report comes later, but here's the deal - the Brotherhood, we now know, are actively looking for mutants too.

Magneto leads them.

Magneto helped build Cerebro.

Given time, Magneto can rebuild it. Given time, Magneto can sway a young mutant to his cause. Given time, he can find a telepath.

Given time, and practice, a telepath with strong enough potential could be trained to use Cerebro.

Scott? Professor?

I think psis, especially telepaths and power-enhancers, need to be bumped to the top of the list both for pickups and for searches.

I hate to introduce any element of prejudice into our operations, but the thought hit me in the shower and it was a nasty one.

We know he has the capacity, people. We need to make sure he never gets the ability.

We need to try to stop him, but we also need to plan for the day he will have one.

I agree with the assessment, though. Professor, can you determine those kinds of mutants with Cerebro, so we can try to act first?

It is already a guarantee that Magneto will form his group and possibly another Cerebro. And this will lead for his search to find a telepath strong enough to handle it.

By only recruiting strong telepaths because of this fear, feeds into the stereotype that some mutants are better than others.

Magneto forming his group is inevitable, whether we allow him to mold our criteria for accepting new students, is something else altogether.

We must tread carefully, Ororo. Any misstep may prove fatal.

No, Scott, I'm sorry. I cannot tell you what sort of mutations a person might have, from my contact with them via Cerebro. However, a bit of research outside of Cerebro may prove useful in this case. Perhaps our connections in government can be of help.

Not only. Just with priority.

And I don't see how it's feeding the stereotype.

Unfortunately, telepaths aren't better; they're more necessary.

I understand where you're coming from, but - well, it's a technical problem at this point, but think about it: if Magneto can build another Cerebro, so can we.

We train you (or Emma; I'd prefer you, to be honest, but...) to use it, possibly with Everett backing you up.

That doubles our potential "find rate".

Which halves the length of time for us to find another telepath.

Which, with another Cerebro - thirds it.

At which point, we have two people working on finding just the telepaths, and Charles is back to looking for everyone else.

Magneto forming his group is inevitable, whether we allow him to mold our criteria for accepting new students, is something else altogether.

Not accepting new students; just ranking who gets pickup priority.

I'm not saying we stop looking for kids with physical mutations, energy projection, anything - hell, we can't even tell who the psis /are/ right now.

But, as you say, this could be fatal. If it's a choice between letting Magneto get to a potential Charles, or another Rogue or Everett, or letting him take someone like Pyro or like me, we have to be aware of the consequences.

This isn't something we can afford to ignore, unfortunately.

This is all true, and I definitely think we should be focusing energy towards doing pick ups as quickly as possible, which we seem to be doing.

As far as focusing on telepaths...well, we don't know for sure that building another Cerebro is his plan, and you never know when the stone the builders rejected will become the cornerstone. :)

I'm afraid not. Location and whether a person is homo sapiens sapiens or homo sapiens superior is as much as Cerebro can manage.

Perhaps, when Hank returns, he and I can attempt to augment the software such that it will allow me to focus on an individual and gain such information without endangering him or her.
