Mission report: North Atlantic

Team members: Cyclops (lead), Cable, Northstar

Intention: Retrieve Shiro Yoshida and return him to the mansion.

Mission Status: Success.

Summary: We were alerted to Shiro's emotional breakdown by Manuel de la Rocha and scrambled the jet to retrieve him. He released his powers when we were roughly 2-3 miles from his position, and we required telekinetic assistance from Cable to stay in the air. Northstar exited the plane and retrieved Shiro. We proceeded back to the mansion and encountered difficulty landing. Jetstream compensated for the lost thruster and with some further telekinetic assistance from Cable, ensured we got down safely. The Blackbird was seriously damaged and will be non-operational for an indeterminate amount of time.

A quick thought

Nathan:

Can you, if you have a couple of free minutes, explain to me why you
couldn't have picked the plane up and set it down nicely? Or at least
extracted the landing gear so we didn't have to waste time in a hover,
thus causing the ENGINE TO MELT?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Haroun

Possibly because the plane is extremely heavy and I'd already sprained my brain keeping it from falling out of the sky and into the Atlantic?

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
And three warped landing gear covers were beyond your poor overtaxed brain? I thought you were supposed to be the big hitter, Nathan.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I ought to be flattered that you actually think I'm that good, but yes. They were.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. I removed them by hand in about ten seconds each. Guess you should be heading back to the training field to work on that telekinesis of yours, then?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
They were beyond me at that point. Drop the subject.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
No, I don't think I'm going to. We very nearly lost five people today in that crash-landing. Maybe more. I need to know if I can count on you when the hammer's down.

I know you had a good medical reason why you weren't at the top of your game. And I'm not blind to the idea that saving Shiro's life was a very good thing, and well done. Paul was with Shiro, Scott was in the pilots chair, and I was outside. What _were_ you doing to help with the situation, Nathan?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't 'not at the top of my game', Haroun. I was half-conscious in the copilot's seat.

In any case, I helped level out the plane when the engine went. Which was all I could do, at that point; I'd caught it once already.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
And me and what's left of my spinal column appreciate that. However, my plane doesn't.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
So tell me, since you know so much about what a telekinetic can and can't do, what precisely should I have done?

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'd have started with "something" and ended with a "land the plane". Simple enough for you? This little mishap is going to set Charles back about twenty million or so in parts alone. It's a good thing I don't have a life, because it's going to be spent hip-deep in plane-guts fixing the damage.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
I could not have landed the plane. Have I not made that abundantly clear? Do you think that just because telekinetics lift things with our minds, we don't have limits?

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Stop crying about it already. I hear you. Want to help repair the damage, at the very least?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
What, you want the incompetent telekinetic near the plane he broke? You're very inconsistent.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, preferably I'd like for you to rest your brain and get your strength back, but yes, I want the incompetent telekinetic to get his ass down here and see what needs to be done, and maybe find a way to help out.

Or are you going to sit in the co-pilot's seat and watch again?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Are you naturally this offensive, or do you have to practice?

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's a gift. Nice dodge of the question. You coming or what?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
I can hardly walk in a straight line, Haroun. That would be a no.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thought so. Then do you want to exercise your writing muscles and pay for the damages, or is your brain too snarled to sign your name?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm getting the impression that you really would have preferred me to try and catch the plane again and burn myself out.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
We all make sacrifices, Nathan. In this case, you ducked the bullet and got lucky.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
I love how this is all my fault.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
What the hell is your problem? Do you think I deliberately broke your plane?

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
By omission of action, maybe. Mostly, I could really use the help in putting it back together. To do that without a lot of expensive equipment requires either you or Lorna, and Lorna doesn't have the fine control I need.

That leaves you.

But if you want to cry about it, I won't disturb you.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Another fine mature nuanced response. I'm impressed.

Take your skirt off and get down here and help.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Fine. You want me down there? I'm coming. You want me to lift the fucking plane, I'll lift the fucking plane.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't need you to lift the fucking plane _right now_. I needed you to lift it _yesterday_. Once we get the engine replacement parts in, THEN I'll need you to lift the fucking plane.

Ahem

[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Haroun, what the hell are you doing in the hanger with a sprained back? We had you soaking in ice water last night to stabilise your internal temperature, and here you are doing your best to aggravate yourself again. Go. Rest. Now.

Nathan, same goes for you. Close the lap top, take a couple of those pain killers I gave you and go back to bed, or I'll have Moira do it for you.

Don't make me come down there.

Sorry, Doc.

[identity profile] x-jetstream.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I love you, but the sooner we get the plane back airborne, the better.

Besides, all I did was hobble. No lifting whatsoever.

Haroun

Re: Sorry, Doc.

[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The plane can wait a day, Haroun. And taunting the overloaded telekinetic didn't exactly endear you to me either.

*shakes head* Boys.

[identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com 2004-08-28 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Point of fact, I have neither the control nor the strength at this point. Though I'd be happy to help out as much as I can.
